I entered a competition via Vodafone and much to my amazement won a ticket for two people to visit the McLaren Technical Department situated in Woking, Surrey.
Simon and I set out at 4pm (it was a Friday) to drive down to the Centre. We arrived early so visited the pub nearby where I had a coffee and Simon a beer. We then joined the queue waiting to get in. Vodafone had sent me a coded message which I presented to the security people on the gate and we were allowed to go to the car park. At the car park were waiting six seater vehicles which took us to the main entrance of the building.
Inside there were a variety of cars from road models to race spec and we started taking photographs. We were immediately requested to put our cameras away !
We were allowed into the test bays, the wind tunnel area and the long trophy corridor. We then had light refreshments and promptly at 7.30pm it was announced that Jenson Button was coming round the lake in a sports car ! Sure enough, there he was and we all crowded to the entrance to greet him.
